Leading Edge Self Retracting Lifelines
The ideal position of a retractable, when used as a part of a PFAS, is directly overhead. Often, contractors will place a retractable on the deck and use it at foot level. Almost all retractable lifelines on the market are not allowed to be used in this manner if the worker is exposed to a leading edge hazard. The integrated shock pack will help to reduce the impact forces of the cable as it comes into contact with the leading edge. The ideal position for an anchor point connection to a SRL is above the back d-ring of the harness, so when the anchor point is below the back d-ring or at foot level a Leading Edge SRL is the right choice. Another option for tying off a foot level would be to use a ( 12 ft. ) free fall lanyard, which would be suitable for applications where the lanyard will not come into contact with very sharp edges that could potentially cut the webbing, so using a cable type SRL or lanyard would be ideal for sharp edge contact. There are many SRL's that allow you to connect an 18 inch shock pack to the snap hook of the retractable lifeline allowing you to use it as a leading edge SRL, please follow all manufacture guidelines on each product if choosing to go this route and give us a call or email us if you need information on help choosing the right product(s).
